How to make 2017 YOUR year with ABF Athletics

We’ve all experienced the motivation of a fresh start to the new year to spark our interest in achieving our fitness goals. However, keeping to those goals for the ENTIRE year (and beyond) is a challenge. So how do we stick to our goals?

1. Find what motivates you.

For this step, everyone is different. Some like to write out their goals and remind themselves daily of why they are working on them. You can write them on a sticky note and post them where you can see them daily. You can set a reminder on your phone, at maybe a time that you know is tough for you, to remind you why sticking to your goals is worth it. You can look in the mirror and remind yourself what you are working towards. These are just a few and finding the right motivation takes trial and error to know what works best.

2. Know your realistic goals.

We all want to make big changes and get results fast. But the best way to see results is making small changes consistently to continue progressing. Setting unrealistic goals can lead to disappointment and cause you to give up completely. This tends to happen for all the new year resolutions which is why they give up within a few weeks. An unrealistic goal could be “I’m going to lose 50 lbs in 5 weeks”. Is that possible? No not without cutting off your limbs in the process. A realistic goal could be, “I want to lose 50 lbs by the end of the year.” Healthy weight loss is around 1 lb a week and is more likely to stick by slowly losing it in a healthy manner than trying to lose it all at once.

3. Make small term goals and long term goals.

This goes hand in hand with realistic goals. Making the small goal to lose 1 lb THIS week by replacing your normal snack of cookies with vegetables is an achievable goal. These small term goals will lead into you achieving your long term goal.

4. Find a game plan.

Although I can also help with all of the steps prior to this, we can sit down and discuss how your goals will be achieved by your game plan. Your game plan is a combination of proper diet and exercise to achieve your goals. I have discussed with you your goals when signing up, however, if you would like to readdress them with your new years resolution in mind, I would love to set up a new game plan for you to stick to.

I’m here for you every step of the way to achieve your goals in the healthiest and most efficient way. Let’s make 2017 a fresh start to recommitting to your goals and sticking to them.

Happy New Year!!
